it’s also rather nice to spend the night with 1000’s of people without the whoomp whoomp whoomp of a sound system…
i’ve also enjoyed it even when it rains – finding that there’s a certain sense of celtic hardcoreness making it through a grotty night to the sunrise.
two of my favourite things are the way the noise of drumming and general crowd noises are much louder inside the stone circle as it acts a bit like a reflective speaker, while outside is quieter (also muffled by surrounding bodies)… and the way that if it’s raining (not torrential tho) quite often it won’t be raining in the centre of the stones, due to the thermal mass of packed people dancing, heat rises and deflects the rain to the outside of the stones. some call it magic 😉
haven’t been for the last 2 yrs, was at sunrise festie last year and off up north the year before, so really looking forward to going back this year, despite the rubbish weather forcast (runs thru checklist… waterproof top and bottoms, umbrella, shoes that don’t leak, bit of camping mat for sitting on, warming liquid in hip flask, hot thermos, and suncream for when the rain breaks and the sun comes out in the morn 🙂

innit – that’s often been the maxim for the uk gov / state more than most.

well it’s a good reminder to people to keep their message boxes / email tidy anyway. like keeping back-ups of ur data – once you’ve lost your computer and years of stuff though some hard drive failure, you tend to try and keep ontop of backing up your important stuff – having a panic over sq might make people think about their usage a bit more 🙂
this spoof wasn’t necesarily too far from the mark though.
while it’s pretty different, indymedia still got their servers in london seized as a result of some weird assed cop action, and bristol indymedia had its server seized last year and one admin guy had the cops round his house and was arrested and taken down the station.
ok it’s a very different type of website, but people on sq and other sites still speak freely about all sorts of stuff – luckily people talk so much shite that it would be difficult to seperate reality from fantasy 🙂 Still, people post video and photos of all sorts of party related crap on the net, stuff that most ‘activist’ types wouldn’t post in case it incriminated someone.
and i’m sure everyone knows theres a new phase of clampdown on parties underway… anyone interested in their computer security should check this as a basic guide:
